We have studied large, heterogeneous populations of discrete chemical oscillators (~100 000) to characterize two different types of density-dependent transitions to synchronized behavior: a gradual Kuramoto synchronization and a sudden quorum sensing synchronization. We also describe the formation of phase clusters, where each cluster has the same frequency but is phase-shifted with respect to other clusters, giving rise to a global signal that is more complex than that of the individual oscillators. Finally, we describe experimental and modeling studies of chimera states and their relation to other synchronization states in populations of coupled chemical oscillators

Ponente: Lucia Hosekova (Instituto de Física Corpuscular Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas / Universidad de Valencia). Higgs production via gauge boson fusion, due to its unique signature formed by two tagging jets in the forward and backward region of the detector, is one of the most important channels for discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC and for exploring its properties. As most of the irreducible background originates from other gauge boson fusion processes sharing the same kinematical characteristics, it is desirable to analyze and understand these processes with accuracy that goes beyond the leading order. I show a method for calculating the next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to both resonant and non-resonant contributions to the vector boson fusion processes and present results for a class of processes associated with production of two W+.

El efecto Mössbauer consiste en la emisión y absorción resonante de rayos gamma nucleares, sin retroceso del núcleo emisor. Con este efecto, y usando la medición de velocidad a través del efecto Doppler, detectamos las interacciones hiperfinas de los emisores, como el corrimiento isomérico, el desdoblamiento cuadrupolar y la interacción magnética.
